“if you spill your face on me one more time ill…”

The way you spilt your face on my dress;

was as shocking as the cadmium stain

next to the cigarette burn

and the uncalled for – pulled thread.

It’s trying to smile in upside down frowns

burrow it’s eyes under cotton

and pretend it can’t speak English.

“if you spill your face on me one more time, ill…”

Do nothing but watch it drown.

The featured bee is not drowning. It is merely resting on a honey packet lid. It is either a bee scientist gathering foreign honey for direct analysis, or a confused city bee who has quite frankly misinterpreted ceramic rounds for flower heads. Collecting would-be pollen from aluminum buds. Some things are better left unsaid.

  1. The first line alone I love – “The way you spilt your face on my dress;” – wonderfully conjuring images, and your afterword re the safety of the bee is lovely too.
